Widely circulated footage appeared to show Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, though he maintains he was actually signaling approval to Cowboys fans present at the game as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the wrong finger,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”
