Individual confesses to sexual offenses involving young males at summer camp
A man who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males aged between nine and ten.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and an older person experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his suspicions.
She explained the defendant went on to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member called the police a second time.
She explained Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
