Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities issued surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
