Man Who Reached For Ariana Grande during Movie Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia that leaped across a fence and reached for actress Ariana Grande has been expelled and prohibited from Singapore.
The man, 26, was given a sentence to more than a week in jail for causing a public disturbance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority told Singaporean press.
The man shoved through camera crews and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was attending the Asian premier for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
The individual has a record of interrupting performances and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The incident sparked outrage in Singapore, with many saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The singer has spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her concert in the English city in May 2017 took the lives of over twenty people and injured hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the authorities learned he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere twice, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a second attempt to cross the barriers. Event security stopped him and pinned him down.
The man subsequently shared videos expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "free."
Police arrested him the subsequent day and accused him with public nuisance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Court Judge the judicial official was cited by Channel News Asia as remarking that the man sought attention, adding that he was incorrect to think he would not face any penalties.
The actress has not commented on the incident.
Erivo mentioned the incident to NBC, remarking that she "just wanted to ensure my colleague was safe."
"I think he didn't mean us danger, but you never know with such situations, and I sought to ensure that she was fine. That was my initial reaction," she said.
