The Gunners' boss remains confident that his squad can keep managing with fitness issues following disclosing that forward Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

The Germany international has been sidelined since August due to an operation on his knee. Initially expected to return sooner, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when advancing his training and could not progress “the next phase.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a group that is far more dependable and has greater depth,” stated the manager.

Questioned if more options was helping their championship push, the manager agreed. “Yes, as this campaign has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now the problems with the defence,” he continued.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at this level. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Speaking about the delay previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the next level and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his eagerness to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, in my view, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his mentality, his personality. I see him suffer being outside.”

“His playing record is outstanding, he’s been always available, and I can’t wait to have him back involved playing because I feel it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
