The January transfer market is always a time of feverish rumour and possible major transfers. Several notable stars find themselves linked with moves away from their present clubs. This article explores some of the major figures who might be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward in contention, reports suggest a major transfer is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause applicable for a brief period in early January. Recent reports point to Manchester City look to have won the race for his signature. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to other options, potentially opening the door for teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late move.

M. Guéhi

This England centre-back has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous transfer to Liverpool collapsing. With his contract set to run out in the summer, January is the London club's final chance to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, including City and several continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January exit is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

This Welsh winger has had starting minutes limited at Spurs this campaign. Despite being the club's top scorer last season, Johnson has started just a handful of Premier League games. It is understood the North London club would be willing to consider a sale for the right price, believed to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an interest.

Spurs rate the Welsh international at around forty million pounds.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese playmaker could be set for a comeback to the Premier League after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Still just twenty-eight, and with his agreement ending in the summer of 2026, he is a potential bargain. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool have been connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he would be willing to take a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barcelona following new coach Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January exit looks increasingly probable. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England centre-forward has kept finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading chances of being in the national squad. But, arranging a deal presents major hurdles. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his reported enormous weekly wages make any agreement difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

Conor Gallagher

This dynamic midfielder attracted widespread interest in the summer but stayed at Atlético. Harvey Elliott

Although excelling and being named the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, the talented player has struggled for minutes during his loan spell at Villa. Due to FIFA regulations regarding representing multiple teams in a campaign, a return to his parent club prior to next season appears to be the sole viable outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkey attacker has been in fine form for Juventus this term. As his current deal nearing its end, a host of English clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy contract but are in a battle to keep one of the continent's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Dutch midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. This teenager is heavily expected to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but could face strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
