Revitalized Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.
Now training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of that year.
Victory also means he has won 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.
The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his ability to compete at the top level was over.
However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved service.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.
Both players traded break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to force a decider.
He defended 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, he secured the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
