The victims have not yet been publicly named, but police believe their ages are between 10 and 87 years old.

Here are the victims who are known to date.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Known as a father of five children, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She described the moments leading up to the attack, saying they were standing when the shooting started. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.

The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having faced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Publicly, a senior official expressed that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the message continued.

One victim from Israel was among those killed in the incident, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospital, a significant number are still under care, with several in serious condition. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.

One of the injured is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Sources state he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He told reporters he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
