The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
