A pair of unbeaten runs remained intact at Anfield, but only one team could take genuine contentment from the outcome. Leeds United executed a perfect strategy of frustrating and restricting Liverpool, with the maiden goalless draw of Arne Slot's tenure highlighting the persistent limitations within the reigning champions' recent upturn.

Defensive Display Secures Vital Point

A lacklustre scoreless draw, the initial in 84 fixtures for Slot's team, was primarily due to the immense dominance of the outstanding centre-back pairing Jaka Bijol and Pascal Struijk, combined with the home side's inability to break down a well-drilled visitors' unit. The Merseysiders were reduced to speculative half-chances, and a sprinkling of boos could be heard around the famous ground at the final signal on a laboured performance.

For Leeds, their clearest sight of goal came from an Alisson error. The Brazilian shot-stopper played a careless clearance directly to disruptor Ethan Ampadu, whose instant shot back towards goal was gathered by the alert goalkeeper.

The match descended into a bitty affair, low on incident. The midfielder, returning from a ban, tested Perri from distance. The subsequent rebound led to Ampadu handling the ball, awarding Liverpool a free-kick in a promising area, which Wirtz sent into the wall.

The Liverpool manager introduced a triple change to inject urgency, and moments later Virgil van Dijk went agonisingly close to heading his side in ahead from a set-piece, his header bouncing just wide the post.

Late introduction Dominic Calvert-Lewin believed he had continued his scoring streak for Leeds in the closing stages, but his tap-in was flagged out for a tight offside call. In the end, both sides had to accept a single of the points.
