This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
